1.0 out of 5 stars No continuity at all, sack the proof reader!!, 16 Nov. 2017

Had high hopes after reading the first few chapters. Then it all went downhill from there, a lot of the book was just mindless page filling and it made no sense! There was no continuity, it referred to “Mel” as being called Melissa and Melanie in different parts of the book! It also talked about how Mels Mum had died but then in another part said how her mum lived too far away to babysit! The “twist” was terrible. All in all a huge disappointment.

4.0 out of 5 stars An easy read, gripping in parts and builds nicely. Reality suspension mandatory., 5 July 2017

I enjoyed this. I enjoyed the conversational style and the way the tension and questions built gradually. It was technically smart the way almost every chapter ended on a note which made you want to start the next chapter. The plot and premise was, of course, faintly ridiculous and required a heavy dose of reality suspension, but, hell, this is fiction, so 'so what' if it makes for an interesting read. There were a couple of stylistic repetitions which should have been edited out (I lost count of how many times Mel 'folded' into Joe's arms) but overall this was a commendable first effort. Well done, sir.

I'm more of a techno thriller / SF / reader than psychological drama murder person. I liked the story, it was good, it was plotted in minute detail both online, on phone & offline. I couldn't spot any plot holes in such a tightly woven book. It really is finely manicured and it does keep the reader guessing. I thought thebalance of the characters and their various duplicitous behaviours was great...... My problem with this well written and well executed yarn is the absolutely spineless lead character..He was too much of a victim, he hardly made any of the luck for himself he was tossed around the book like a bedraggled sheep weighed down by his young son who genuinely had no reason to be there. The wife was not maternal in any way shape or form and was pretty hopeless and tearful herself again tossed around by a great plot that unfortunaftely took heroism away from everybody.. To me it was a novel of victimhood....... The writing was great but i was genuinely deflated by the lead... Read more
